The Boeing B-47
"Stratojet"
The first swept wing turbojet strategic bomber
The Boeing B-47 "Stratojet" medium bomber was one of the most revolutionary post-war aircraft designs. Powered by six turbojet engines, carried in pods underneath its fully swept wings, the B-47 was faster than many of the fighter aircraft of the day. Quickly becoming the backbone of the USAF's newly formed Strategic Air Command (SAC), Stratojet crews were on alert and acted as a deterrence to war.
