Some Color For The 101...

It's been a few weeks since I've posted anything here. With a new job came more time to spend with the family, which leaves spare time on weekends to work on the F-101 here. But, as you can see, there is progress...

So here's the "inside baseball" look at how my planes get "painted". The entire plane is flattened out and pulled apart, then the individual pieces are painted, marked, panel-lined (etc.) until the whole thing starts to look like this...

No engine coverings here. They haven't been mapped or textured yet, so they're hidden from view for now. These are just diffuse colors.  And I'm not even finished with those.  More panel lines have to be added to the underside of the plane, the wings, and the stabilizers before it's finished.  Many more stencils on the fuselage to apply as well.  But, she's getting there, isn't she?

So, why the 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, you might ask? This very plane is parked just outside a regional airport not too far away.

I thought it would make for a good "first". There'll be several other units represented in profile prints, too!

I'll just leave those here for now. More work over the weekend as time allows. For now, I hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend!

"Cheers!"
