The Boeing B-47 Stratojet
The Boeing B-47 Stratojet has to be one of my all time favorite planes. Engineers at Boeing obtained German aircraft data at the end of WWII which lead to their design of a very clean, swept wing, all turbojet medium bomber. The foundation of the U. S. Air Force's newly-formed Strategic Air Command (SAC), the "Stratojet" was a revolution in aircraft design.
In this illustration, I've rendered two B-47Es climbing through clouds on a brilliant day while the sun begins to rise. Both planes wear tail numbers representing B-47s assigned to SAC's 340th Bomb Wing at Whiteman AFB, near Sedalia, Missouri. A beautiful plane captured in her element!
