"The Happy Hooligans" F-101B Voodoos

Presented as a 20" x 30" giclee print, my artwork depicts three F-101B interceptors, flown by "The Happy Hooligans" of the 178th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.  The view in this scene is from one of the planes in that formation as they climb over the snow covered plains of North Dakota.

From 1969 to 1977 the 178th Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the North Dakota Air National Guard, better known as "The Happy Hooligans", flew the McDonnell F-101B long range interceptor.  Based at Hector International Field in Fargo, North Dakota, the Hooligans were one of several Air Defense Command squadrons which protected North America from potentially hostile Soviet aircraft.  Since 1973, as part of the 119th Fighter Wing, they helped achieve the distinction of flying 115,000 hours in fighter aircraft without a Class A Mishap (an unprecidented achievement in any U. S. fighter unit!).
