“Crow Hop”

“Crow Hop” is a 24X18 inch fine art print of my artwork that features McDonnell F-101B Voodoo interceptors flown by the 60th Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the USAF Air Defense Command. The squadron was based at Otis AFB, Massachusetts, from August 1955 through April 1971. They were better known as “The Fighting Crows,” and flew the Voodoo from 1959 through 1971.

There was a time when U. S. Air Force fighter units displayed very colorful graphic designs on their aircraft to show pride in their organizations. The designs usually featured symbolic elements representing the states where they were based or their squadron’s heritage. As time (and USAF policies) passed, the artful paint schemes gave way to subdued grays or camouflage, depending on the unit’s mission. The 60th FIS had one of the more colorful ADC unit paint schemes. Bold crimson lightning bolts struck across their F-101s vertical stabilizer. Large stylized birds (crows) were painted on the Voodoo’s fuselage. Crimson was used again on the splitter just forward of the plane’s air intakes. The bold paint scheme immediately identified the interceptors as 60th FIS Voodoos.

“Crow Hop” is limited to a run of 20 fine art giclee prints. Each one is hand-signed and numbered. They are printed on 60 lb. acid-free archival paper so the colors stay vibrant for many years to come if properly cared for.
